Superfighters Deluxe?(PC) is an 8bit, 2D side-scrolling action game, developed by Mythologic Interactive, where the player is tasked with fighting enemies on various stages, using a plethora of weapons. The levels are semi-customizable, with certain portions of them being destructible or moveable. Game features single-player campaign and online multiplayer, where participants can try their best in Survival and Versus modes.
In game, the player is given control of their in-game avatar, which can be freely customized. The player is then thrown into a tutorial mode which explains the ins and outs of the game mechanics, which are quite complex for this type of video game. The player can punch, kick and shoot, as well as move around, dodge roll and push objects.
The main goal of game is defeating all enemies, who show up on the map. There are quite a lot of maps in the game, and they are divided by the modes they can be used in. The locales featured in Superfighters Deluxe include rooftops, underground facilities, alleyways, etc. The maps in Superfighters features destructible surroundings and moveable objects, which can be useful if the player needs cover during the battle. Players can also use map editors to create their own stages.
While there is no story mode per se, Superfighters Deluxe features a single player campaign, divided into 5 chapters. Other modes are based solely on multiplayer and include Survival mode, where players must fight through waves of enemies, and Versus mode, which pits players against each other.?
Weapons and items
The player can use various types of weapons to dispose of their enemies, which can be either Nazis, clowns, or other players in Versus mode. The weapons are divided into primary, secondary, as well as melee. The former two include machine guns, rifles, shotguns, grenade and rocket launchers, pistols, revolvers, submachine guns, flare gun, etc.
Melee weapons are probably the most robust category of tools available in Superfighters Deluxe and can be divided into makeshift and non-makeshift. Makeshift weapons are regular objects found on the maps. They deal heavy damage but break easily. Non-makeshift weapons include a chainsaw, knives, hammers, machetes, etc. The player can also use throwable objects, like shurikens.
Items in game have various purposes. Medipacks, for example, restore the player’s health. There are also several powerup items which boost certain stats, like speed, strength or grant slow motion effect for a specific period of time.
Superfighters Deluxe was met with positive reviews, often being favorably compared to classic games of the genre. Critics and players praised the game for easy yet complex mechanics, a large number of maps, and enjoyable modes. The multiplayer received particular praise, for making otherwise straightforward side-scrolling brawler an excellent party game.?
